|
Incepted in the year 1959, we Upper India Smelting and Refinery Works, are a fast growing company engaged in the arena of manufacturing and exporting a comprehensive range of Zinc Oxide for cosmetics, paints, animal feeds and many more. These inorganic compounds bear accurate compositions and are widely used in different applications such as Tires & Rubbers, Glass and Ceramics, Agriculture & Animal feeds etc.
We owe our present well established status to our mentor Mr. Atul, who has with him wide industrial experience. His sharp business acumen and in-depth process knowledge in this realm has motivated and guided us through the stiff competition in the industry.
Since the very inception, we have been able to meet the emerging market demands accurately by conducting business on ethical grounds. Our base in Yamuna Nagar (Haryana) helps in catering to the demands of our domestic clients in a befitting manner. Besides, we are backed by our logistical coverage that has enabled us in maintaining timeliness in deliveries and have secured us a reputable standing.

Following are some of its Chemical & Physical Properties:
Molecular weight: 81.37
Boiling point: Sublimes at normal pressure.
Specific gravity: 5.607 at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F
Density: 5.606gm/cm, Solid
Melting point: 1975 degrees C (3587 degrees F)
Vapor pressure: < 0 (mm Hg)
Solubility: Practically insoluble in water; soluble in dilute acetic or mineral acids, ammonia, ammonium chloride, ammonium carbonate, and fixed alkali solutions; insoluble in alcohol.
Evaporation rate: By use of a mass spectrographic method, the rate of evaporation of zinc oxide is measured as a function of temperature both with and without electron bombardment of the surface being evaporated. A definite increase was observed in the evaporation of zinc oxide. The enhancement of the evaporation rate of zinc oxide increases slowly at first and then rapidly with increasing temperature.
pH: 6.95
Chemical Data:
ZnO occurs as white powder commonly known as zinc white or as the mineral zincite. The mineral usually contains a certain amount of manganese and other elements and is of yellow to red color.[2] Crystalline zinc oxide is thermochromic, changing from white to yellow when heated.
Zinc oxide is an amphoteric oxide. It is nearly insoluble in water and alcohol, but it is soluble in (degraded by) most acids, such as hydrochloric acid:
ZnO + 2 HCl → ZnCl2 + H2O
Bases also degrade the solid to give soluble zincates:
ZnO + 2NaOH + H2O → Na2 (Zn (OH) 4)
ZnO reacts slowly with fatty acids in oils to produce the corresponding carboxylates, such as oleate or stearate. ZnO forms cement-like products when mixed with a strong solution of zinc chloride or with phosphoric acid, owing to formation of oxysalts.
ZnO decomposes into zinc vapor and oxygen only at around 1975°C, reflecting its considerable stability. Heating with carbon converts the oxide into zinc vapor
ZnO + C → Zn + CO
Zinc oxide reacts violently with aluminum and magnesium powders, with chlorinated rubber and linseed oil on heating causing fire and explosion hazard. |
 | Incompatibilities
Contact between zinc oxide and chlorinated rubber, linseed oil, magnesium, hydrogen fluoride, aluminum + hexachloroethane, zinc chloride or phosphoric acid, and water should be avoided.
Hazardous decomposition products:
Toxic gases such as zinc oxide fumes may be released in a fire involving zinc oxide
Special precautions:
Zinc oxide absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and forms zinc carbonate. Prolonged contact with water causes zinc oxide to slowly decompose.
Flammability
Zinc oxide is not combustible.
The National Fire Protection Association has not assigned a flammability rating to zinc oxide.
1. Flash point: Not applicable.
2. Auto Ignition temperature: Not applicable.
3. Flammable limits: Not applicable. |

Material Safety Data Sheet:
(i)Health hazards Information: Zinc oxide can prove hazardous on inhalation, ingestion, and eye or skin contact.
(ii) Effects on Humans: There are certain negative effects of zinc oxide on human health, some of which includes the following:
Zinc oxide dust, primarily a nuisance dust, when exposed in high concentrations can result in respiratory system effects in humans. This is apparent from the fact, when volunteers inhale 600 mg/m zinc oxide dust for 10 minutes exhibited persistent rates, decreased vital capacity, coughing, upper respiratory tract irritation and substernal pain.
Exposures to concentrations up to 430 mg/m zinc oxide resulted in chest pain Inhalation of zinc oxide fume can result in metal fume fever.
Repeated exposures to zinc oxide by skin contact have resulted in papular-pustular skin eruptions in the axilla, inner thigh, inner arm, scrotum and pubic areas.
Acute exposure to zinc oxide can result in coughing, substernal pain, upper respiratory tract irritation, rales, chills, fever, nausea, and vomiting. |
